A New Film by Julie Nimoy and David Knight

Hi, my name is Julie Nimoy. Sadly, on February 27th 2015, I lost my dad, Leonard Nimoy, from complications arising from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) — also referred to as chronic bronchitis and emphysema. Each year millions of people throughout the country, like my father, are diagnosed with this debilitating and potentially fatal illness. In fact, COPD is one of the most prevalent lung diseases diagnosed today, and the third most common cause of death in the United States.

After Dad’s untimely passing due to complications related to COPD, my husband and I committed ourselves to continuing his message through a very special project — a documentary dedicated to my father titled Remembering Leonard Nimoy.

Diagnosed with COPD in 2013, Dad took to social and traditional media to bring this common but often undiagnosed disease to light. In his last interviews and through Twitter, he reached out to educate his fans, openly discussing COPD and the dangers of smoking, which affects as many as 30 million Americans.

Remembering Leonard Nimoy is our way to continue his mission. The documentary will create awareness for COPD through Dad's story as well as his life and legacy.
